Clement

Since 1887, the production of Rhum Clément has been carried out according to the purest traditions and most time-honoured inherited from Homère and Charles Clément.
Homère Clément, physician and mayor of Le François, purchased the prestigious 43 hectare sugar plantation, Domaine de L’Acajou, and pioneered Rhum Agricole, a contemporary style of pure rum made directly from fresh free-run sugarcane juice, instead of the traditional rum made from molasses.

Rhum JM

In 1914, Gustave Crassous de Médeuil bought the J.M Distillery from the family of Jean-Marie MARTIN. The Crassous de Médeuil heirs have carried on the time-honored passion and tradition of making rum J.M.  Freshness and purity is not a secret to make great Rum J.M but these simple details separate rum J.M from the rest of the rums of the world.

Saint James

SAINT JAMES was born in Saint-Pierre de la Martinique in 1765, from the hands of Reverend Father Edmund Lefebure, Superior of the Convent of the Brothers of Charity and a skilled alchemist. This dignified priest crafted a cane spirit called “Guildive” or “Tafia”. In the archives, a precise description of various qualities of spirit would suggest that “Rhum Agricole” from Martinique was born…A man of faith, but also with a good business sense, Father Lefebure started shipping rum to the geographically close British colonies in North America. The Rum was named Saint Jacques, in tribute to Jacques Dyel who devoted his life to developing the Martinique Island, and became SAINT JAMES for commercial reasons in order to be more English-sounding.

Glenfiddich

For 20 years William Grant nurtured a dream to make the ‘best dram in the valley’. With the help of his family, he finally achieved that vision. In the summer of 1886, with his seven sons and two daughters by his side, William set out to fulfil a lifelong ambition. Together they began building his Distillery by hand, stone by stone. After a single year of work it was ready and William named it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer.

Highland Park

Highland Park is one of only a handful of distilleries that still retains a traditional malting floor, turning each batch of malt by hand, in what is a physically demanding process. To malt our barley, we steep it in the mineral rich water from the Crantit spring, before transferring it to the malting floor to slowly germinate. When it is ready, the barley is then placed in our kilns where the aromatic peating process begins.

Nikka

In 1918, Masataka Taketsuru embarked alone on a long voyage to Scotland. In this distant land the secrets of whisky-making would be imparted to this young Japanese man, and here he would meet the woman who would become his bride.Masataka Taketsuru was born in the coastal town of Takehara (now Takehara City) about 60km from Hiroshima City. The Taketsuru family owned a “sake”(Japanese brew made form fermented rice) brewery that goes back to 1733– and continues to produce fine sake today, in 2004. Taught early that sake making is a painstaking fine art, Masataka studied diligently and trained at university as a chemist, preparing to carry on the family trade.
